I gaze out the floor-to-ceiling window on the corner of 85th and Lex and see yellow taxis whizzing past, a biker weaving between them, and crowds impatiently waiting on the first white line of the crosswalk for the light to turn red.
Time has been on my mind a lot lately, and I know it has been on so many others.
just wrote a piece about her relationship to summer’s last days and as I sit in this coffee shop I keep hearing the familiar,“There’s not enough time left!”
“I only made it to the beach once this summer!”
“I swear, it was *just* June!”
It’s a balmy 89 degrees with 69% humidity today, and you’d be able to guess the scorching temperatures have set in even from within air-conditioned walls if you look outside. It’s the kind of heat that turns the air into hazy smog right before your eyes + you feel a sudden camaraderie with all of the other New Yorkers who couldn’t escape to the Hamptons, Upstate, or the Shore for a long weekend.
It’s clear, summer isn’t over.
In fact, we have 40 solid days left! Plenty of time to jump into a lake, lay in the grass looking up at the clouds, sit warm + sticky on a patio with drippy glasses of Aperol Spritzes.
In a world where Valentine’s Day candies appear on store shelves the day after the New Year and a go-to question is, “So what’s next?” leaning into the long slow days of summer feels like joyful resistance.
So, get out of town, follow Chris Rovzar’s advice + stay blissfully put, do nothing at all — but don’t count summer out just yet, there’s so much left to enjoy.
To being presently here,
Kayli

☼ Have a hot dog a week! Sorry, but I *love* a good dog. If in NYC, Gray’s Papaya, Billy’s Hot Dog Cart on W. 92nd, Crif Dog, Papaya King… or make them yourself coming up with fun toppings! These elote dogs + nacho dogs look epic.
☼ Take or DIY an outdoor yoga class! I love these yoga classes in Central Park + there’s free yoga this weekend at Carl Schurz for my UES gals.
☼ Go to your library + check out a book. Proceed to read outside while tanning + sipping an iced tea. May I suggest: Valley of the Dolls, The Paradise Problem, or Just for the Summer?
☼ Pick wildflowers + press them. They’d look so pretty framed down the road!
☼ Choose a nearby body of water, pack a picnic, and spend the day swimming.
☼ Take a long shower with smell-good products, complete your whole skincare routine, and hop into bed while the sun’s still out to watch a favorite movie with ice cream. I’d watch: Bring It On, Prom Dates, or Three Men and a Baby.
☼ Get to a museum right when they open + spend the morning browsing exhibits as the sunlight floods in.
☼ Play hooky for an afternoon + grab a daytime lunch with a friend.
☼ Blast music and dance through the sprinkler!
☼ Volunteer to walk rescue pups up for adoption. My friend just invited a group of us to do this one + it looks so wonderful!
☼ Grab clusters of flowers and arrange a bouquet.
☼ Grab an ice cream cone and eat it while dancing to Chappell Roan on your walk home. Note: I just did this - 10/10
☼ Hop on the phone + do some Calls for Kamala!!
What says summer like sleeping bags, s’mores before a scary movie, and girl talk into the wee hours? I recently was a guest at
’s S.L.U.M.B.E.R. Party + had a ball!I dished on a first crush story, one big way you can become the muse of your own life, and a huuuuge thing I’m manifesting.
You can read + join in on the fun here:

This was lovely to read. I also agree that going to museum at opening is the best!
Needed the reminder that there is still plenty of summer left, I keep feeling like it's nearly over!!
